Colorwork Practice Valentine's Edition
date completed: 02.11.24
approx. total hours: n/a
materials: 8/4 Hobbii 100% Cotton Yarn
pattern: bow and lettering patterns by me, rose and heart pattern found on pinterest
skills learned: intarsia, fair isle
description: A mix of crochet and knit blocks to practice colorworking skills. The blue bow and rose heart motifs are crocheted, while the red bow and script text are knitted. I made the mistake of not adding a garter stitch border to the knit pieces, so the edges keep rolling up even with steam blocking. The bow motif was created by me on Stitchfiddle. The script text was created by me using an alphabet alpha pattern as a guide. The rose heart motif was found on Pinterest.
Cable Knit Set
date completed: April 2023
approx. total hours: ~80 hours
materials: Hobbii Rainbow Deluxe 8/4 100% Cotton Yarn in Dusty Sky (17) held with Super Kids Silk Mohair in Micro Chip (107)
pattern: freehanded by me
skills learned: cables, seaming cables together, knitting with double-pointed needles (DPNs)
description: The first piece completed from this set is the bolero using DPNs. Then, the skirt was created by knitting a rectangle with ribbing on the top and bottom. It was finished by seaming the sides using a mattress stitch. I had to add an extra panel because the initial rectangle was too narrow for my measurements. The final piece is the tube top, knitted similarly to the skirt, except that I knitted front and back panels then seamed them. To finish off the top and set, I added a ruching feature on the front of the tube top to create more of a sweetheart neckline.

pattern: boat neck top/off the shoulder top by nelsknits
skills learned: stripes in the round, top down construction, knitting a different size by adjusting gauge
description: Knitted top down holding two strands of mohair. I would consider this my first challenging knit in my journey with the type of yarn being finicky and slippery and having to learn how to switch colors in the round. I enjoyed making this a lot!
